Try Easy! A New Way of Looking at Right Effort with Ayya Ahimsa

Join us for this weekend, non-residential retreat

Many of us have deeply absorbed from our culture that the harder we try, the better. When it comes to our spiritual practice this approach doesn’t help us, it actually hinders us. A different, more nuanced understanding of Right Effort is essential for our well-being and our progress on the Path. As Ajahn Brahm often says: “We can learn to use wisdom power, not will power”.

This is a silent retreat with periods of sitting and walking meditation. Ayya Ahimsa will offer Dhamma teachings and practical instruction. Some meditation experience in the mindfulness/Insight/Vipassana style is assumed. The practice is based in Buddhist teachings, but you don’t need to be a Buddhist or have previous knowledge of Buddhism to attend or benefit. Everyone is welcome!

Ayya Ahimsa is the resident bikkhuni at Canmore Theravada Buddhist Monastery. As a bikkhuni, she has deep understanding of the Buddhist path and her friendly, approachable teaching style makes her teachings accessible to everyone. We’re so pleased to have Ayya back again to lead our fall retreat!

Ayya took Samaneri Precepts in 2013 with Ayya Medhanandi at Sati Saraniya Hermitage and in 2016 she joined the nuns’ community at Aloka Vihara. Ayya was given Bhikkhuni Ordination in 2017 with Ayya Gunasari Theri as her preceptor.
